Frequently Asked Questions
Does my child need to attend with a congregational group?
No! This is how Seekers is different from most of our other youth events. Children may attend with adult family members, with an adult from their congregation, or without an adult. Supervision for all children will be provided by adult mentors and youth from our Lutheran Youth Organization – a leadership development program for high school students.
What are the sleeping arrangements?
Families who attend together will be housed in cabins as a family unit; these may be in the standard cabins available at camp, or in more private configurations. Children attending with a congregational leader or without an adult will sleep in cabins along with adult and high school event staff. If your child is attending with your family in a cabin with other participants, they are welcome to do so! All attendees will need to bring a sleeping bag (or twin bed linens), pillow, and bathroom linens.
When and where can I drop off and pick up my child?
Drop-off/registration will take place at the Potomac Lodge at Mar-Lu-Ridge from 9-10 a.m. on Saturday. If you would like to join us for the closing worship service, please plan to arrive at the Chapel at Mar-Lu-Ridge at 11 a.m. on Sunday. Otherwise, pick-up will take place at the Potomac Lodge at 12 p.m. on Sunday. All event participants must be signed out by a parent/guardian or approved adult congregational leader before leaving the camp.
What does my child need to bring with them for the retreat?
We will share a full packing list, but your child should plan to bring weather-appropriate clothing and outerwear, including sturdy close-toed shoes (like sneakers). ALL PARTICIPANTS will need to bring their signed permission form and participant’s promise in order to participate.
Can I bring my younger children?
Yes, younger children may attend if a parent/guardian is staying overnight. However, we will NOT be providing activities for siblings and they may not accompany the participants in their programming.
